About Chris Smedbakken

I am that kind of person who would rather give you a story than an introduction. You would be hard put to find something that doesn’t inspire me. Feed me a theme and I will give you back a text, it’s almost as simple as that.

But I’m not just a writer, although writing is a major player in the love triangle of my life. I’m also a musician, a photographer, an explorer, a gamer and a dreamer of far fetched dreams. How that adds up to a triangle, I attribute to my cat and the Universe. They conspire sometimes when they think I’m not listening.
I am also dedicated to the Swedish LGBTQ and feminist movements.

I love to travel and that’s what I do as soon as I have time to spare – and when my wallet denies me airplane tickets I travel in my mind. In between journeys I am a journalist and a teacher. I also play the violin, and probably way to much video games as well. When my friends and I settle down for a round of good old tabletop RPG, I am the game master.

In the way of literature, the words of Carlos Ruiz Zafón, H.P Lovecraft, Neil Gaiman, Patrick Rothfuss and Anne Rice enrich my life and my mind. Music-wise I fill my ears and my home with the tunes of David Bowie, Queen, Blind Guardian, Korn and others. As you might guess from this, my music taste is not very consistent. As long as it has feelings and can inspire, it’s my cup of tea. Whether it’s Mozart or Lady Gaga is of less importance.

I am currently working on a long-time-in-the-making novel in Swedish, but a side project of mine consists of a short story collection in English. I am a digital editor and reporter at a Swedish newspaper, and also recently entered a collaboration with the Cthulhu Mythos inspired Tabletop Thane Etsy shop where I provide text pieces and short stories to go with the artistic products.

My life and the title of this site is largely inspired by the winged words of William Blake:

To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.

This blog will be filled with my own grains of sand. Grains, not grain, because I have many – and they’re all little worlds in their own right.
